“Lucky’s Netball League”

In 1991 Brian Luckhurst founded a netball league in the then new Ames Levett Sports Centre. The league contained 8 teams from the Canterbury area and ran every Monday night from 7pm until 10pm. The league gradually grew from strength to strength so much so that Brian would refer to the league as “his Monday night ladies.”

The league continues today and has grown into a competitive league with games being played to a high level. Despite this the league has always been played with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment.

In April 2005, Raye Luckhurst consented to the league being renamed “Lucky’s Netball League” in recognition of the leagues founding father.
